SARVANGADHARA

Sarvangadhara or Parisheka treatment is a priceless gift of Ayurveda towards a
comprehensive psycho-
somatic healing. Sarvanga means whole body and Abhyanga means massage. Sarvanga Abhyanga
is a
process in which massage is done to the whole body with the help of medicated oils as a
preventive and
curative therapy. It is not only a time-tested effective remedy for many physical
ailments, but also the
best in the business of relieving the mind related stress.
Head and body massage is given for 15-20 minutes. Then do pouring of hot medicinal
liquids over the
body in seven different positions - sitting, lying on the back, left lateral, lying on
the stomach, right lateral,
lying on the back & sitting of the patient for more than 1 hour.
During the massage, synchronized circular movements are done over the joints, abdomen
and chest and
downward strokes are done over the hands and legs.
Warm oils deeply penetrate into the cells and release physical, mental and spiritual
toxins, hence
sarvanga abhyanga works as detoxifying as well as healing cellular therapy.
Duration of treatment: 60 minutes
The 7 postures of doing Sarvanga Dhara are:
Sitting posture
Sleeping by facing the roof (supine position)
Sleeping in left lateral position (towards left)
Sleeping on tummy (prone position or face downwards)
Sleeping in right lateral position (towards right)
Sleeping back by facing the roof sitting posture
The treatment procedure is carried out for 10-15 minutes in each posture. Thus the time
duration of the
treatment ranges from 70-105 minutes.
After Sarvanga Dhara, the person should be allowed to relax for a while. The body should
not be
immediately exposed to cold or cold measures. Doing so might induce some symptoms like
cold, muscle
cramps etc.
